Amit Shah tests positive for COVID-19

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that he has tested positive for coronavirus and is being admitted to the hospital following the advice of doctors. Shah, 55, said this on his Twitter handle.

He said that I have undergone a coronavirus test after showing initial symptoms and have tested positive. My health is fine but I am hospitalized on the advice of doctors.


The Home Minister also requested those who came in contact with him in the last few days and separated him by having coronavirus tested.

"A team of doctors, led by AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria, is likely to visit Medanta hospital (in Gurugram) to see Shah for treatment," reported news agency ANI quoting sources. 

Meanwhile, sources said that Shah strictly adhered to social discrimination norms along with wearing masks at the recent Union Cabinet meeting. There is a strict protocol at PM Modi's residence. There is no use of internal cars for temperature testing, sanitary bridge testing, ferrying people. Most physical meetings are avoided and virtual conferences are preferred instead.


After the home minister's announcement, several political leaders took to Twitter to wish him a speedy recovery.
