The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday arrested Rhea Chakraborty on charges of buying and consuming drugs. The arrest comes after three days of questioning by the NCB.
Rhea Chakraborty was being questioned in the case of drug abuse in the case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death on 14 June. He was questioned by the NCB for eight hours on Monday and six hours on Sunday.
The 28-year-old, along with his younger brother Souvik Chakraborty (24), Rajput's house manager Samuel Miranda (33), and his housekeeper Dipesh Sawant was confronted for tracing his role in an alleged drug racket.
The NCB arrested three people in the case last week. Chakraborty's family and lawyer had said that they foresee Showik 's arrest after his detention.
The agency previously stated that it had obtained mobile phone chat records and other electronic data suggesting some banned drugs were allegedly bought by these people.
Chakraborty's father Indrajit had issued an emotional statement after his son's arrest. "Congratulations India, you have arrested my son, I am sure my daughter is in the front row and I know who is after her".
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR against Chakraborty and others in connection with the death of the actor.
Chakraborty was interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI which were investigating various angles surrounding Rajput's death.
The autopsy of Sushant Singh Rajput indicated that he had died by suicide. His father, however, filed an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty in Patna, accusing him of motivating his son to suicide and misusing his money. Chakraborty has denied the allegations on several occasions.
