NBA: Former Trail Blazers star Clifford Robinson dies at 53?

Robinson played 18 seasons in the NBA, winning Sixth Man of the Year in 1993 and helped Portland reach two NBA Finals

Cliff Robinson was named an All-Star in 1994 and averaged 14.2 points and 4.6 rebounds in 1,380 career games.

Former NBA All-Star and Trail Blazers great Clifford Robinson has died at the age of 53.

According to a statement issued by his family, there was no immediate information in the news about Robinson's death, however, he had been battling lymphoma for at least a year.

After being selected for the 36th time overall in the 1989 NBA draft by the Blazers, Robinson wore Portland's jersey for eight seasons - all of which led the team to the playoffs. Robinson won the sixth Man of the Year award, After the 1992–93 season.

After the 1992–93 season, Robinson won the sixth Man of the Year award. In 1994, He made the NBA All-Star Game and was named to two NBA All-Defensive Second Teams at an average 14.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 1,380 career games - the 13th-most in the history of NBA.

On Saturday, the Blazers released a statement on Robinson's demise:

The Trail Blazers organization is deeply saddened by the passage of the great Cliff Robinson. Robinson began his career in Portland in 1989 and stayed for eight seasons before continuing his 18-year career in the NBA. His personality and energy were unmatched, and his on-court contributions were unmatchable, helping the Trail Blazers to the playoffs in each of his eight seasons with the team. His streak of 461 consecutive games played with the Trail Blazers still stands as a franchise record, a testament to his hard work and dedication to the team. We express our heartfelt condolences to Cliff's family and loved ones. Uncle Cliff will greatly miss the Trail Blazers and all of Rip City.

"RIP Clifford Robinson - Some of my earliest memories of NBA's basketball were a lifetime for those early or mid-'90s Blazers teams. On Memorial Coliseum !! Rip a Portland legend," tweeted Cleveland star Kevin Love, who grew up in Oregon. 

During his 18 seasons in the NBA, Robinson played for the Blazers, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warriors.

Robinson leaves behind his mother, Helena Horne, sister Alisa, brothers Craig, Torrey, and Rashard and their children Jessica, Jaylen, Isaiah, and twins Clifford and Lyle Robinson.
