Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the submarine optical fiber cable connecting Chennai and Port Blair through video conferencing.
Modi today said that it is the responsibility of his government to provide modern facilities to every citizen of the country and make their lives easier and people will get convenience by reaching optical fiber facility from Chennai to Port Blair, Andaman Nicobar is a prominent place on the world tourism map Will also emerge.
As global manufacturing is seeking to establish itself as an important player in the global supply and value chain, it is imperative to strengthen our waterways and port networks. Aman and Nicobar is going to be developed as a hub for development through the port in the coming time.
'Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone of this project in December 2018. This fiber cable is laid at a cost of Rs.1224 crore from Chennai to Port Blair, about 2300 km long under the sea.
Today the country is moving forward in self-reliant India campaign
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that its work has been completed in about one and a half years. This is a gift for the people before the 15th August celebration. Modi said, surveyed at sea, laying the cable and maintaining its quality was not easy. It was needed for years, but it did not work. Modi said, "Today the country is moving forward in the self-reliant India campaign, in this context, the Port Development-Waterway is being strengthened. Also, work is being done to connect the rivers to the port and to remove all the legal hurdles.
Many employment opportunities will arise
Modi said that the people of Andaman and Nicobar will get all the digital benefits including online education, better internet like all the citizens of the country through cable networks. He also said that if connectivity is good, then tourists will be able to stay there for a long time, which will create many employment opportunities. He said that under this Act East Policy, the role of Andaman is more and will increase further. The work of strengthening the infrastructure including a better connectivity facility is going on in all the islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Andaman and Nicobar will get faster internet
It is known that through Chennai, this cable will go to Swaraj Island, Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Kamarota, Great Nicobar, Long Island, Rangat, which will provide fast internet to Andaman Nicobar. It should also be known that special types of ships are used for cabling in the sea. These ships can carry up to 2,000 kilometers of cable with them. From where the cabling begins, one uses equipment such as a plow, which moves along the ship.
